For me the real story here was the authors' collaboration on their novel, A Celibate Season: brainstorming, writing, the struggle to sell the book and finally, its growing success. While there's some value in the completeness of this collection of letters, I would have preferred a shorter, more focused book. Taken as a whole, it's a good look at the writing life and at the Canadian (and international) literary scene in the last decades of the 20th century.
