I must say this about Dan Simmons novels. If you start one of his books you HAVE to finish it to see how it is going to end. This story was the classic horror story. It took place in the deserted farm house of his childhood friend who just happened to have had a tragic accident that killed him when he was 11. A prime place for ghosts and demons to appear. Put that together with the main characters break up of his marriage and family, through his own fault, loss of his teaching job, a botched suicide attempt and, on top of that, he has no cell phone connection at the house. Everyone that comes to see him you find out is......I don't want to give away the ending so you, too, will have to read it to the end to find out what happens. Dan Simmons is very much like a Stephen King, but I think I prefer the earlier Stephen King books to Dan Simmons. I had to finish this book, but I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a good read.
