The first half of this book had me hooked and I was reading with great enthusiasm. I connected early with the characters and found the story moved quickly. After reaching the half-way point in the novel, however, I found the story unravelled into badly written nonsense. By then I had already invested so much of my time that I felt obligated to finish it. I don't want to spoil the book for others so I can't comment too much about the ending but suffice to say I found it boring, silly, and a waste of time. My rating for the first half of the book is 4 stars and the last half under 1 star so I compromised and gave it 2.5 stars overall. Hopefully Philip Kerr will go back to writing about Bernie Gunther.
