Offers a series of intimate, passionately-felt portraits: a fatherless 11-year-old is apprenticed to the domineering owner of a Baghdad garage; Sadr followers in two Shiite cities rally for regional elections while enforcing Islamic law at the point of a gun; a family of Kurdish farmers welcomes the U.S. presence, which has allowed them a measure of freedom previously denied. American director James Longley spent more than two years filming in Iraq to create this documentary of the war-torn country as seen through the eyes of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.

I was especially touched by Part 1, a child's perspective of Iraq in 2003. His daily life, as well as the confusion and fear about what is happening to his country, is very sad.

Here is a stark documentary about the dilemmas and divisions within the dismantled Iraq. Disc 2 has even more short films which will raise your hackles in anger. I highly recommend seeing the "Before the War" piece [Disc 2] before running the main film [Disc 1.]
