Shortly before he's about to get married, a man gets violently drunk and ends up in a compromising situation with a woman who tries to blackmail. So he kills her, but then lives a haunted and paranoid life. Noir master Cornell Woolrich, whose books were made into films by prominent directors like Hitchcock and Truffuat, is not up there with big guns like Chandler and Hammett, but he's a solid second tier writer and fans of hardboiled/pulp crime will dig this. He was only 89 pounds when he died.
