Overall, very interesting and thought-provoking book with some caveats. The story is told in the voice of Mary Magdalene and it gives a fresh outlook on the story of Jesus and what was going on politically and socially in that region of Middle East at the time. This is not religious or Christian or Jewish book (it's religious fiction), but it helps to have a basic background in New Testament and Bible. The more you know or the more indoctrinated you are in the Christian mythology, the more interesting and exciting this book will be for you. I had to look up some people and tribes to get the full benefit of the book. Also, there are some long and boring passages on Greek philosophy that you just have to power through. I thoroughly enjoyed this book after i finished it, and i definitely recommend it!

this book raised a lot of questions specially if you were brought up Catholic, personally I never believed she was a prostitute but the fiction was interesting and I suppose plausible . I would recommend it

This book was wonderful. I truly felt like I was there and lived through the whole storyline. I also loved Longfellow's take on the life of Jesus. I was originally going to rate this 4 1/2 stars instead of a perfect 5 because I found the long pages dealing with philoshophy to be a bit dry and tedious to get through, but the last 100 pages of the book was so intense and fantastic that I had to give it a 5. This is a story that will stay with you a long while after you have finished it.
