Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for History, No Ordinary Time is a monumental work, a brilliantly conceived chronicle of one of the most vibrant and revolutionary periods in the history of the United States.

With an extraordinary collection of details, Goodwin masterfully weaves together a striking number of story lines--Eleanor and Franklin's marriage and remarkable partnership, Eleanor's life as First Lady, and FDR's White House and its impact on America as well as on a world at war. Goodwin effectively melds these details and stories into an unforgettable and intimate portrait of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt and of the time during which a new, modern America was born.

First off - Doris Kearns Goodwin is by far and away my favorite historian! She has such an engaging style of writing so that you feel she is really introducing you to people she knows well and cares for.

So many books about WWII are about military strategy and victories or defeats. But here, Goodwin takes us into the homefront - both for the country and for the Roosevelts themselves.

If you read this book and watch Ken Burns' documentary series - you will know both the good and the bad of these individuals and all that they brought to our country!

Excellent insight into FDR through WWII. It really gives a good feel for the social and political environment within the US during this time,
