First off - Doris Kearns Goodwin is by far and away my favorite historian! She has such an engaging style of writing so that you feel she is really introducing you to people she knows well and cares for.
So many books about WWII are about military strategy and victories or defeats. But here, Goodwin takes us into the homefront - both for the country and for the Roosevelts themselves.
If you read this book and watch Ken Burns' documentary series - you will know both the good and the bad of these individuals and all that they brought to our country!
An intimate portrait of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt set against one of the most revolutionary periods of the the United States. History came alive for me in the massive study.
Excellent insight into FDR through WWII. It really gives a good feel for the social and political environment within the US during this time,
