I just finished reading this excellent book ... and too as a previous reader has suggested - a "Family Tree" would have made it so much easier to follow. I have now started at the beginning ... scanned the first 4/5 chapters in order to figure out precisely where the different families belong ... as well as the names of their 'homes' Estates ... as they all had names as did the villages and towns ... once I figured that out - it was better! An excellent read!

One of my favourite of Pilcher's novels.

I just finished reading this book and I thought it was a good read. It was long, but overall quite good. The author does a good job at keeping the reader interested; each storyline is interesting and you want to know what will happen. The only thing I disliked about the book was that because each chapter was about a different character, there were a lot of stories going on at the same time and I felt that had the publisher/author (?) had put a "Family Tree" at the beginning of the book, then you would remember who was related to who/ who are the various people in town.
(It was more of a dislike at the beginning of the book, but once I got to learn more about the characters, as the book went on, it was fine.)
