They call him the Dollmaker, a serial killer who stalks Los Angeles and leaves a grisly calling card on the faces of his female victims. When a suspect is shot by Detective Harry Bosch, everyone believes the city's nightmare is over. But then the dead man's widow sues Harry and the LAPD for killing the wrong man--an accusation that rings terrifyingly true when a new corpse is found with the Dollmaker's macabre signature. Now, for the second time, Harry must hunt down a ruthless death-dealer before he strikes again. Careening through a blood-tracked quest, Harry will go from the hard edges of the L.A. night to the last place he ever wanted to go--the darkness of his own heart...

One of the better Harry Bosch novels - recommended.

Complex and hard to put down. Bosch is on trial for the wrongful death of a suspected serial killer, but another murder occurs that has the signature touches of the dead killer. The investigation is detailed, lots of twists and turns and red herrings. Very compelling story.

Have to agree with kwan of Calgary and other commenters - - high courtroom drama mixed with typical Bosch detecting.

Great combination of detective work and courtroom drama.

A great mix of courtroom drama, personal struggle, and detective work. Bosch faces self-doubt about his motives while gradually peeling back the layers of the mystery to reveal the true dark heart. I felt like cheering at the surprising conclusion.

A gripping courtroom drama threatens the career of police detective Harry Bosch as he pursues a serial killer of sex trade workers in Los Angeles. Edgar Award winning author Connelly once again delivers tight plotting, authentic police procedures and strong dialogue, reaffirming his standing as the current master of this genre.
