In these eleven stories, Rohinton Mistry opens our eyes and our hearts to the rich, complex patterns of life inside Firozsha Baag, an apartment building in Bombay. Here are Jaakaylee, the ghost-seer, and Najamai, the only owner of a refrigerator in Firozsha Baag; Rustomji the Curmudgeon and Kersi, the young boy whose life threads through the book and who narrates the final story as an adult in Toronto. We see their passions, their worst fears, their betrayals, and their humorous acts of revenge. Witty and poignant, in turns, these intersecting stories create a finely textured mosaic of lives and illuminate a world poised between the old ways and the new.

Not even close to as good as A Fine Balance

Travel to a new land, a new neighbourhood and meet intriguing cast of characters. This is an excellent way to introduce yourself to one of Canada'a leading authors Rohinton Mistry. Presented in short story format , each chapter is lightly linked to create a full experience. Once you read Mistrry I am certain many may choose his larger books such as award winning " A Finer Balance".

Why not spice your life up and cook a recipe at the same time?

This may be my favourite of Rohinton Mistry's books. Each story can stand on its own, but together they paint a detailed portrait of this little community -- the residents of one apartment building in Bombay. The prose is beautiful, and the tone kind and understanding and appreciative.
