this was a weird one. there were some parts that were seriously creepy and disturbing and others that were really cheesy, like the bible thumping bodybuilders. this book gave me so many feels. I loved how Abby does the right thing no matter what. even when not only are the adults unhelpful, they actively try to stop her from helping her friend and she is accused of crimes she didn't commit and all her other friends abandon her.

While this novel is not a Young Adult cataloged book, it was a nominee for YALSA's 2017 Alex Award. This book is a horror/comedy genre bender that explores and tests the bonds of teenage girl friendships through possession, exorcisms, and a quirky band of helpers. This book is set up as a 1980's year book, end of the year signatures, and all.

Probably my favorite horror novel ever. Realistic, flawed characters and friendships, and the horror is truly horrifying. Even on rereads, I find my heart pounding and stomach clenching and churning.

And the end? Oh gods the end. It ruined me for all other stories of demonic possession.

Great book. An easy read. Good creepy factor. An accurate and honest portrayal of high school life as a teen. Love the 80's references. Overall, this read is worth your time.

I love everything about this book. I love the campy 1980's references, but also the deep emotional core and the exploration of friendship and redemption. I love how satisfying the ending was, and how I stayed up until 2:30 AM to finish the last 150 pages. I loved how authentic the dialog and the main character's growing feeling of isolation felt. I recommend this book frequently to both new and frequent horror readers.

Super fun! I especially love how the dialogue is written like an after-school special from the 80s. And as a child of the 80s, I loved all of the references and had flashbacks to my own childhood (minus the demonic possession). At 330+ pages it seemed just a *bit* long but other than that, I loved it.

Set in the 1980s, this is an engrossing (and creepy) pop culture take on an old horror trope. Although it suffers from pacing weirdness midway through, the ambiance as well as the running theme of the power of friendship make for an enjoyable read.

This is a book about exorcism. It is clear. There is no latency, hiding meaning in title.
It's also about friendship between teenagers and how real it could be, and what are you willing to do for the sake of your friend.

This story is genuinely scary and had me hooked from beginning to end. I read it a few months ago and it still gives me chills to remember it. If you're looking for something thrilling and you're a fan of the eighties this is a great read.

My Best Friend's Exorcism is absolutely wonderful if you grew up in the 80's, or (like me), you can't get enough of 1980's pop culture. Campy, but still horrific, this novel gives the perfect amount of scares without being too graphic or over-the-top. By the end, I felt compelled to call up my own best friend, which goes to show the emotional connection I felt to the characters and the situation. I'm not a huge fan of horror, but I'm definitely a fan of this book!
