The inspirational story of world champion boxer Vinny Pazienza, who, after a near-fatal car crash, which left him not knowing if he'd ever walk again, made one of sports' most incredible comebacks.

It seems that someone saw David O. Russell's much superior "The Fighter" and decided we could make the exact same movie using Vinny Pazienza's story. Pazienza's story and comeback is dramatic and interesting but the movie really sags in the middle in holding your interest and you know exactly what is going to happen in the big climatic fight at the end. Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart are both really good but they can't seem to overcome the by the numbers direction and writing. If there is one big misstep it is the usually reliable Irish actor Ciaran Hinds who is incredibly miscast and pretty much terrible at playing a working class American dad. Not a bad movie just terribly ordinary.

I checked out Bleed For This out of interest in actor Miles Teller's work and was pleased to additionally find Aaron Eckhart and Katey Sagal in the film. If not for the Rocky series I might not have picked this up. When I played the film I watched the beginning and then missed much of it until right before the depiction of the car accident -- and didn't feel like I had missed anything (exposition, detail, etc). For me the film felt like it was dragging and wondering in the beginning, not particularly building, not giving a viewing value, not engaging for me (among a certain sub-cultural aspect that I find overwhelming). While this is a boxing-story film, do not think of it as a sports-film -- probably the reason why it felt like it was dragging is because its platform is that it's a drama. The equation the drama + overwhelming sub culture drove me out of the room. But hey .... for all the times I've seen our Sno-Isle Libraries mis-tag the spines of films (ex. pieces that are clearly sci-fi labeled as being first-&-foremost action films, etc) this one is definitely correctly tagged as a drama -- and not that drama is bad, but for this film the viewer needs to remember that it is a Drama, not sports/action.

Amazing story of Vinny Pazienza who fractured his neck in a car accident and was told he was never going to be able to box again, and maybe not even be able to walk. Instead of going with a neck fusion which would guarantee he could walk - Vinny decides to go with the Halo, a device that screws into his head and installs into a mount that sits around his torso and shoulders. During this time Vinny continues light training to maintain his muscles and weight so he can return to boxing after he has healed - against everyone's wishes.

Really good movie, but they skimmed through his career. His first fight with the way past his prime Roberto Duran was not the first fight back after his accident, but his seventh. And they downplayed the age difference, making it seem like they were almost the same age.

I was hesitant to watch this film because I'm not usually a fan of boxing pics but I'm glad I did - and glad I knew nothing about it beforehand. Miles Teller was excellent. The deleted scenes are worth watching.

Great movie! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to give up. The cast did an amazing job. The accents were really bad though. But, if every movie delivers like this one I'll take a bad accent over bad acting any day.

Kevin Rooney: I mean, you just don't know how to give up
Vinny Pazienza: No I do. Trust me, I do. I know exactly how to give up. You know what scares the shit out of me, Kev? Is that it's easy.
