Just finished at page 56 and closed the book. The characters are boring and if you are not hooked by the first couple of chapters, time to look for a new book!
Retiring but lost most of retirement funds, traveling with rich crowd she does interior design for, just not able to enjoy folks who should have common sense, not have it.
I generally love this author and enjoyed all of her books but after 3 chapters, I closed this one and returned it to the library. I found the main characters snarky, shallow and quite frankly didn't care what happened to them.
I couldn't get past page 20 in this book, before I got bored. I have loved all her books, but I think she needs to come up with a different story line. The hapless husband and the clueless daughter didn't spark my interest at all. Maybe if she could come up with some really interesting history about South Carolina, not necessarily the coast, she could build a really interesting and exciting novel about the pioneers of South Carolina.
This book was quite easy to put down. I'm not sure why I kept reading it.
One of my summer pleasures is to read a Dorothea Benton Frank story while on vacation. Frank's books are usually just witty, frothy and interesting enough to keep me occupied between naps by the water. I was looking forward to this read on my annual holiday. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the latest offering from one of my favourite authors. Perhaps there was just not enough of that Southern charm that usually defines Dorothea Benton Frank's writing. In this book she detours from the Low Country to a posh Caribbean island and a massive yacht motoring off the coast of Spain, and peoples the book with ill defined, whiny characters with whom I could just not connect. Unfortunately, this is a very disappointing book, not nearly as entertaining as the author's previous offerings.
It was okay. But, I felt I was lleft standing in the road with no direction. She is usually great but not this one. What a disappointment!!!!!
Frank's books are usually light, frothy, enjoyable beach reads, but don't bother with this one. It is trite, predictable and the writing is mediocre. If a plane had crashed or a boat upended with the main characters on board it would have been a relief.
