This is a gritty coming-of age story of a 13 yr old boy on the Ojibwe Reservation in North Dakota. The Reader is male and had the perfect accent for a Northern Indian young man. It was reminiscent of a movie called Smoke Signals that I saw in the early 90's.
This young man's Mother is brutally attacked and there is a deeper back story that takes you through the ridiculous laws that govern Indians on a Reservation. His Father is a Tribal Lawyer and leads you through some of this struggle.

It is a brilliantly crafted novel that leaves you hanging until the last chapter.
