An incredibly long, drawn out story. While the author brings to life the Paris of that era, most of the characters seemed flat and unsympathetic to me. Halfway through the book it was obvious who murdered Olympe and why.

A psychological story of obsessive love, political and sexual intrigue set in Paris in 1899. Bostonian lawyer James Norton’s search for the murderer of his brother’s lover, takes him from the Grand Hotel to the murky waters of the Seine, tawdry bordellos, overcrowded jails, and a terrifying asylum. For mystery readers who enjoy a little history and a café au lait with their suspense.

Excellent read! Evokes the atmosphere perfectly. I really felt part of the characters and loved the winding pyschological story. Gripping right to the very end
