Egoyan has been making films for 20 years and still hasn't cultivated any storytelling skills. The surprise ending might have seemed effective in capable hands. See the indignities of old age ravage fine actors Plummer and Landau, cast in such a mediocrity in their twilight years.

This is one of the cleverest films I have ever seen. I had to watch it twice and was amazed at what was achieved here. Astounding. Makes a person question everything.

I agree with some of the others who have reviewed the film. It stays with you long after you've viewed it. Excellent film with a powerful performance by our beloved Christopher Plummer.

Interesting twist on classic Nazi hunt story. Christopher Plummer plays an old man with dementia who has been tasked by his retirement home friend Max to find an old Nazi who was a soldier at Auschwitz. The old man Zev can barely remember his name and is often looking for his wife who past away years ago. Max is physically disabled and very weak, but his mind is razor sharp and he plots his revenge strategy using Zev as his instrument. You're thinking, let it rest, but many Jewish families will never let it rest—having lost so many relatives in the camps. Some Nazi’s got away with their activities and escaped trial and judgment. This DVD portrays old men trying to live with past, some of which is forgotten, hidden, ignored or denied, but when confronted with the truth that past must be acknowledged. Brilliant performances by Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau.

Awesome performance by Canadian Christopher Plummer , Martin Landau, and Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) as the state trooper.
Well written by Benjamin August, and directed by Canadian, Atom Egoyan.
Surprise ending after a film that kept us guessing and interested.

I just viewed this movie and it is an incredible journey of Nazi hunter and dementia. Plummer of course is excellent.

The ending of this movie was quite unexpected. Christopher Plummer is a great actor.

Rated 10/10. Brilliant plot, and well acted! Plummer and Landau were excellent.

The ending had one of the best twists I've ever seen in a show.

Highly recommended.

Sit down, put the kids to bed and turn off the phone...no booze either. This is a quiet, thinking movie...beautifully acted . An absolute gem from Atom. The writing and 2 perfect actors for the principal players. Enjoy.

Tyler: My name's Tyler

[extends hand]

Zev Gutman: [shakes hand] Nice to meet you, Tyler. My name is Zev.

Tyler: That's a strange name.

Zev Gutman: In Hebrew, it means wolf.

Tyler: Cool.

There were clue crumbs throughout the film and these quotes did not help me to see the whole picture until the last scenes:

--You're lying.
-No. It's the first time I haven't lied in 70 years.
===
-He couldn't have known what he was doing.
--He knew exactly what he was doing.
-What? What are you talking about, Max?
===
Six months ago, God smiled upon me when you moved to the senior housing community. I immediately recognized you from Auschwitz, although you did not remember me. We are the last living survivors from our prison block. Besides me, you are the only person who could still recognize the face of the man who murdered our families.

-Nice to meet you, Tyler. My name's Zev.
--That's a strange name.
-In Hebrew, it means "Wolf."
--Cool!
===
MAX: I have planned everything for you. You must follow these steps precisely. Cross them off as you
accomplish each task.
===
--Were you at Auschwitz?
-No! We are too old for lies. I didn't know about Auschwitz until after the war. I was in North Africa. With General Rommel.
--You have proof?
-Yes. Over there. When I became a US citizen, the immigration officer asked me if I had ever associated with the Nazi government of Germany or worked at a concentration camp. I told the officer what I'll tell you. Yes, I served for my country. I was a soldier. I was a proud German and that's what the men did. I'm still proud of my service.
