He woke deep within the ground, and the first sensation he felt was hunger. An overwhelming hunger for blood that demanded satisfaction. But as he hunted the dark streets of Paris for prey, a voice called to him, soothing, calming, giving him the strength to control his craving.

Francesca Del Ponce was a healer, a woman who radiated goodness as powerfully as the sun did light. But surely his obsession with her would turn him as his twin brother had turned, leaving the world with two monsters instead of one.

I could not love this book more. I thought it was the most interesting of all of Christine Feehan's books. It was a great pay-off, after the mentions of Gabriel and Lucian Daratrazanoff in earlier books. I felt that this book kicked off a series of Christine Feehan's best books. From this book to Dark Destiny, I loved every single book.

I have a huge soft spot for the Daratrazanoff family. The males are super sexy. They have the alpha bad boy thing combined with the greatest amount of honor and integrity of all the Carpathian males. (In my opinion, of course.)

This book also introduced another ancient Carpathian female, who was as powerful as the ancient men, and had a lot of the weariness they had as well. She also knew who her lifemate was, and made a reasonable choice to not pursue him, because of what he needed to do. I love Francesca. I loved how strong she was in her decisions. Gabriel was a great hero. He couldn't force his will on Francesca, because she was stronger than most of the other heroines, due to being an ancient Carpathian female. So he had to use other persuasions on her. This book also set up at least two other books, though readers would have to wait many years for the second one.

I highly recommend this book!

Francesca Del Ponce, a skilled healer and maker of "healing" quilts and stained glass --lifemate to Gabriel, one of Gregori's older brothers and younger twin of Lucian-- and Desari, a skilled and powerful singer--Gregori's younger sister-- are two of my favorite of the Carpathian women in the Dark series. Even though Francesca and Desari are very powerful, I felt I wouldn't be afraid to get to know them...whereas, Gabriel would scare me to death...

This one would have to be my favorite of the series so far!
And the Francesca is no wall flower to be pushed around by a bossy male, she has a lot of power herself. Which suits this couple best.

The twist at the end!!!!!!!!!!

One more Carpathian story down and I loved it. It is good to see that the "ancient" males are finding the women have brains and dont react to complete dominance but are being accepted as partners. Next book---Lucian's story

I really enjoyed Carpathian meeting Carpathian for a change, instead of Carpathian converting human. I loved the added twist of the twins.
