"My hair slips down my back and shoulders and around my face like fresh snow falling on the forest floor. Pure white. I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don't want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you. It's what I do; Seventeen-year-old slave girl, Nym, should not exist. In a world where Elementals are only born male, and always killed at birth, she is an anomaly at best. At worst, people around her die. When a court emissary identifies her weather-manipulating ability as a weapon, Nym is purchased and put to work honing her skills. With time running out for the kingdom of Faelen, Nym might be all that stands between it and the technologically-advanced horror racing down upon them;not to mention the rumored reemergence of the monstrous shapeshifter, Draewulf. But some elements even she can't control.Nym must decide whom to trust as she's unleashed into a world of assassins and political betrayal surrounding a young king fighting for his throne, a tired nation that has forgotten its calling, and her handsome tutor whose dark secrets could destroy both her people and her heart"-- Provided by publisher.

Characters: 3/10
Plot: 7/10
Writing: 5/10
It started out really good—interesting premise (the powers, the slavery, the mysterious woman who who buys her, etc.), but it got progressively worse as it went along. I liked the setting, and it had a good fantasy feel to it, but I simply didn’t like the characters. Nym is overdramatic, self-obsessed, and angsty. She can never see her power for the awesome thing it is, and she’s really over-powered. The romance is bad; I like Eogan decently well, but the descriptions are over-the-top (he’s unfairly handsome, he has perfect emerald eyes, etc.). She keeps getting distracted by her lust for him at random, inappropriate points. The only characters I liked were Colin and Breck, and they didn't get justice. The ending did have a good twist, but I didn't care enough about the characters to want to read the sequel. Adora and Myles were decent antagonists. I felt like the climax dealt with too much stuff at once. Throughout, the language was just too over-the-top (“it smelled like death” like 9 times). There was very little humor, and only really from Colin. The plot was pretty good, but again, I just couldn’t connect with the characters. By the time I was about halfway, 2/3 of the way through, I was just trying to push myself through the end.

HOW DOES DIS NOT HAVE BAZILLIONS OF REVIEWS TELLING HOW AMAZING IT IS????
Okay, guys, I will tell you right here and now: this book is GORGEOUS. BEAUTIFUL. HEART-WRENCHING. TEAR-JERKING. SUSPENSEFUL. INTENSE. PAINFULLY, POETICALLY, REAL. A FANTASTIC STORY.
Here's why.
-The main character: Nym. AAAHHHH, NYMIA. She is probably the most heart-breaking female character I have EVER read about. Her story is tragic, scorching and roiling with pain, guilt, regret, remorse, hurt, all these emotions that no 17 year old should have hanging on their shoulders. The way Weber (who, might I just say, this is her DEBUT NOVEL...how in da heck is someone DIS GOOD in their debut novel!?!?) writes Nym's story and draws attention to all the horror of being an Elemental...it was moving. It was deep. It was emotional and real.
-The thrills. Like, seriously, this book has so many tense moments throughout it, climaxing at the very end. The lulls NEVER last long, and Weber did a wonderful job of keeping the suspense level high and the reader interested.
-The prose. GGGAAAHHHH THE PROSE IS SOO BEAUTIFUL!!! Weber's descriptions are flawless, captivating. Her word imagery is SUPERB and superior to anything else I've seen in this teen genre.
And finally...
-The emotions. The emotional conflict, the emotional turmoil, the emotional scenes. Especially the scenes. I will tell you, this is the first time I have literally SOBBED HEAVILY over a book. I'm not kidding guys. I've cried my eyes out in emotional scenes in movies, and I've even shed a few tears in other books. But in this book...at one scene, I was seriously bawling more and more as the scene progressed. No lie.
Anyways, this all goes to say: READ THIS. IT IS A LITERARY CRIME TO NOT AT LEAST TRY. It is definitely one of my favorite books of ALL TIME; it is so amazing. No words I have can do it justice. It is absolutely without a doubt the best book I have read this year. Also, this is a trilogy (*leaps for joy*), and the next book comes out in a couple months from now I think...and I'M ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT SINCE THIS ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER.
Sitting tight for Siren's Fury...*waiting anxiously*

"How can you say it's not a person's fault when he harms others, whether intentionally or not, but then say it's honorable when he chooses to help? I mean, what makes a person evil? If you believe a person was born to bring help, then were others born to bring destruction?..."
Was I born to destroy life, or to defend Faelen?
Colin bumps my shoulder. Then does it again. Until I look up and that bald-boy smirk emerges. "I think some have to fight harder to choose good over evil because the evil's got it out for them. And maybe it's because those're the ones evil knows will become the strongest warriors, recognizing true wickedness when it rears its head...Maybe the ones who've struggled with true evil are the ones meant to make the biggest difference against it, you know?"
