I don't know why I had never read a Donna Leon Commissario Brunetti mystery until recently, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book and plan to read more. Then to find the DVD's was great!! Good mysteries combined with likable characters and some humor make a perfect combination. And there are so many more books and DVD's!! So many of my mystery favorite authors have passed away, so it is always a big plus to find a new ( to me ) author with a series when you are older. Recommend the books and DVD's. As a fan of Donna Leon and admirer of Venice I looked forward to the DVD. I was disappointed in the screen actors selection as at variance with her books....not meeting her standards. Not being completely at ease with German, I still felt the transcription was awkward... and english subtitles impossible and distracting. I recognize that attempting a screen play from her novels yields a shadow of meaning at best, incapable of subtlety.

Watched the first two episodes and I think that will do me. Fans of the Leon books will find the film adaptations quite faithful to the originals. The characters are humorous and sympathetic, but the stories tend to be predictable and repetitious. And the German dialogue is just weird.

Did not realize the Donna Leon books are in video form. The novels are a great diversion.

Worthwhile series, first introduction to Brunetti and I shall certainly view the other episodes.

Contrast of a fairly normal family life with the intrigue of investigations coupled with Italian scenery, makes it good to watch.

Very interesting and well done! Set in Venice, Italy! Gorgeous city! A true Classic, with the intriguing stories, based on the Books by the internationally- reknown mystery Author, Donna Leon! Her books are very well-written!
I recommend both the books and the movie series!

There are 18 Episodes altogether available on the DVD, 2 Ep per box! The Surrey Library has only Four Ep on the 2 DVDs for now! I suggested a Purchase of the rest of the episodes! Hopefully, soon, we can all enjoy the rest of this wonderful series!

A dedicated detective, with an ordinary family, worked on murder cases under a bureaucratic chief but with help from a beautiful resourceful assistant and his motley crew. From Murder, Venice and relationships as intriguing and labyrinthine as the streets of the Lagoon City itself – this is Donna Leon's recipe for success. With her "Inspector Brunetti" crime novels, the Venice-based American author has won countless passionate fans all over the world. Translated into twenty languages, her novels always feature the engaging Inspector Guido Brunetti, a mild-mannered man with a razor-sharp wit, a keen mind and a touch of melancholy. Brunetti's harmonious family life with his wife and two children stands in sharp contrast to what he faces every day at work: the widespread corruption and criminal energy festering behind the otherworldly beauty of Venice's centuries-old walls.
