Michael Peterson was 19 years old in 1974. Reckless, and hoping to make a name for himself, he picked up a homemade sawed-off shotgun and set off to rob a post office. Caught and arrested soon after, he was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. Ultimately, Peterson ended up behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which were spent in solitary confinement. While incarcerated, his alter ego, Charles Bronson, surfaced and eventually replaced his own personality.

If you are expecting a linear, heart-pounding action film this may not be the movie for you. If however, you enjoy a chilling tale of one of Europe's most violent prisoners with a bit of artistic expression and exceptional acting, this is a film for you.
The editing, direction and acting make this film so strong which is why I cannot recommend this more.

No sane person could believe that Charles Bronson, the UK's most violent prisoner, should be freed; not from this film loosely based on his life, and certainly not from any knowledge of his true story. But believe it or not, this movie prompted an amnesty appeal for its subject in 2013. Perhaps its supporters don't know that Bronson doesn't resemble star Tom Hardy, but another Charlie -- Manson. As a film, though, Bronson is first rate. I wish Refn's current films had its snappy pace, but don't go in expecting a typical dudes in prison docudrama. Many of the episodes that might strike you as surreal fantasy did in fact occur.

One of my all-time favourite films.

Tom Hardy is a unique talent, and I was looking forward to this one. I was disappointed in the director's approach to the film, however. I would have preferred a more traditional biopic than whatever you want to categorize this as.

I loved this movie. Hardy's performace is thru the roof amazing. There are a few abstract scenes and plenty of violence which normally do not mix well together but i found this film was able to quite brilliantly do just that. Not for everyone's taste, but this chicky liked it.

Choosing to be a brutal psycho. I am not sure there is any value in watching this film. I still don't see why anyone would choose this path, but maybe that is just a sign I am still somewhat sane. One observation. He would have been able to have almost the same experience if he had been a guard. Too bad he didn't think of that.

This film by director Refn is well acted and directed, filled with violence. However, I do not find the main character, and hence the story around him, interesting at all. It is also not an easy watch for most.

A very good, very odd character study of a career criminal directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives). Hardy's performance is wild and wonderful. The film is a bizarre look into the life and mind of the main protagonist. Unique.

This is one very sorry movie. No value at all. Quit half way through.

Thought it woud be good DVD on the life in prison of Charlie Bronson. It wasn't treated seriously & didn't go into the history of Bronson as a lifetime prisoner & how he gained his reputation.
