First Celia Rees novel I read and became a favorite. What transpires in Mary's life is "riveting" and emotionally and physically intense and what she experiences stays with you. Initially borrowed "Witch Child" as I came across it in my sister-in-law's stack of books. Enjoyed it so thoroughly that I bought my own copy followed by the next two in the Series: "Sorceress" and "Sovay," both very good. Rees targets a younger audience, but I am an adult reader who loves her style and her stories with settings in England. I now own 16 of her books.

I really liked this book. I can't wait to read the next one! I could not put it down. I'd say that some of it is a little hard to read with some of the old-fashioned wording and such.

One of my fav. Historical fics that captures the Salem Witch trails extremely unique style. Your attention will be held on the first page ..and there’s a sequel too.

"I am Mary. I am a witch." Thus begins the journal of Mary Newbury, writing in the spring of 1659 as she watches her beloved grandmother being tortured and hung as a witch in her English village. Before the crowd can turn on Mary, she is whisked away and placed on a ship headed for America. The journal format Celia Rees uses is so convincing that it's easy to believe Mary actually existed,
