In 1972, before the Internet, Deep Throat was a phenomenon: the first scripted pornographic theatrical feature film, featuring a story, some jokes, and Linda Lovelace. Escaping a strict family, she discovered freedom and married Chuck Traynor. As Linda Lovelace she became an international sensation, fully inhabiting her new identity and a enthusiastic spokesperson for sexual freedom. Later she presented another, utterly contradictory narrative to the world, a far darker story.

This is a movie that's easy to underrate, especially if you don't watch the entire thing. It's the story of Linda Lovelace, who became an overnight celebrity in 1972 after starring in a porn film ("Deep Throat") her husband helped produce, and which had unprecedented popularity that took the film, and Lovelace, into mainstream fame.

What's interesting about the movie, Lovelace, is how LL's story is told twice. In the first version, which I think of as "the porn version," we see the story that was fed to the press: Linda Lovelace as a happy, sexually liberated young woman who found making pornography fun. In the second version, we see the reality, the same story from Linda Lovelace's point of view, revealing how she'd been abused and manipulated by her coercive husband and his associates, not to mention defrauded of any money her films made.

Linda Lovelace finally left the pornography profession and her husband, and became an anti-porn crusader. This movie gives a great deal of insight into her experience, and also into the way pornography often exploits and misrepresents women.

A surprisingly strong biopic about sensitive subject matter, LOVELACE is the story of famed Deep Throat adult film actress Linda Lovelace and her relationship with Chuck Traynor, chronicling her messy life from 21 onward. Definitely worth the watch, Amanda Seyfried proves why she's a star in this sensitive ode to a young woman thrust into the world of porn.

The movie has too many stars and the script not enough substance . Certainly there was more to Lovelace than her stint in the adult film industry.

I had heard of this person but knew very little about her so I was interested. the story line and the facts about her life and how she finally found happiness and got out of the trade was interesting. All in All if you lived at the same time and heard about her its worthwhile to find out more.

Fairly good telling of a true but sad story. I thought it jumped around a bit too much, and was too short. The music was great however, and it did a good job in re-creating the 70's atmosphere.

Excellent cast and a gripping story. Good to know about the slimy underbelly of our multi-billion dollar porn industry.

Enjoyed the film, but not superthrilled.

Seyfried did a good job with the film, and the dark side of her story was compelling, but I kept waiting for her bite off her husband's manhood. I know it didn't happen, but cannot reconcile the pain she felt with her willingness to stay with her abuser.

Sexual Content: Nudity consisting of a lot of bare breasts but nothing particularly provocative. Even the violence, drug use, and language is fairly tame.
