I thought this was a cute book and genuinely didn't know how the outcome would go, which is always a treat for me as an adult when it comes to picture books.
This is such a cute story about an unlikely topic: when Sophie decides that her squash is a friend.
At one point other kids make fun of the squash. This book can be an introduction to teaching kindness and inclusion and even standing up for yourself.
When Sophie meets Bernice, she knows they will be best friends. Sophie’s parents are gentle and understanding, but they know the friendship can’t last...because Bernice is a squash, and squash eventually rot away and disappear. Or do they? With plenty of charm and humor, this picture book reminds us that when we are caring and kind to our friends, we will receive so much more in return. Cheerful watercolor illustrations enhance the story, making this a perfect read-aloud for sharing in autumn or any season!
This is a great book, it's cool to see things through the eyes of the child (Sophie). Sometimes it's the simplest things that bring pleasure and not necessarily the biggest, newest, most expensive toys on the market.
this book is awesome.
Such a good book about friendships, acceptance, and a positive view of the cycles of life.
