Having recently finished "Lonesome Dove" the lingering memory of the Oscar winning film inspired me to revisit this story and it kept me engaged throughout. Aurora Greenwood is one of the most unique characters ever developed and you can't help but think, "what a piece of work" due to her outlandish views of people and life. Shirley MacClain's characterization of Aurora in the film is SPOT ON! I'd forgotten the Jack Nicholson character from the movie wasn't present in the book, though Aurora's 3 suitors easily make up for it and then some. Larry's sense of humor permeates the story as does realization that life is to be embraced and never taken for granted. A true classic this book while written decades ago is highly recommended!

I loved this book. The characters were relatable and you grew to love them. They were witty and the humor in this book was great.

The book was okay; it didn't quite hold my attention the way the movie did.

This book is really good. It's also a lot different than the movie. There is no astronaut, although there is a general. The character Vernon Dahlart is fleshed out, as is the housekeeper Rosie (and her life).

This book is mainly about Aurora, not Emma.
